The JV and Varsity Boys Basketball team is a group of hardworking boys, and they show it very well. With JV going 10-0 and varsity going 7-7, we had to interview these talented athletes as well as their outstanding coach, Coach Faircloth. Here is what our fellow athletes Nasir Greenfield and Titus Robinson said about basketball.
Titus is a freshman in high school and plays JV and Varsity Boys Basketball. One of his best qualities on the team is playing defense. His favorite place to shoot on the top of the 3 point line. He averages about 13-14 points a game. If he had to play a sport for the rest of his life, it would be basketball. When he is dealing with pressure in a game, he tries to just keep on playing and not overthink.
Next, we were able to interview fellow teammate Nas Greenfield. Nas was out for a concussion for some of his season, but had a successful comeback and has been playing better than before. When Nas is playing, his best quality is being a strong leader for his team. The spot that he loves to shoot at on the court is the left court. He said that he averages about 8 points per game. The only sport he would play if he had to choose would be basketball. When he feels pressured during games, he tries to just think about all of the positive things.
Finally, we interviewed the man who teaches and guides these young boys in basketball, Coach Faircloth. Coach Faircloth has always wanted to be a high school coach so he can make an impact with his players on and off the court. He started playing basketball when he was 5. As soon as his dad gave him his first basketball, he fell in love with the game. He thought he was going to be an eye doctor, but he wanted to be a role model for younger players, so he became a coach. His favorite game of the season was the overtime game against Thales when Zion tied the game. One thing that his team is good about is playing together as one, but something he thinks they need to work on when they are playing defense is to make sure they play with their arms out.
We are so proud of our JV and Varsity Boys Basketball team and can’t wait to see what they continue to do while being on the court.
