With the increasingly higher reliance and popularity of electronics and having items shipped to your front door, we often forget the talent and honed skill of the people you see every day. Even in school, there are many students who have impressive skills that many had never even seen before and should be recognized.
One of these students with impressive skills is Grayson Darden, an 11th grader who found a knack for cooking, and has since acted on the talent and started cooking and preparing food for others at request. To get to know him and his work a bit better, he was asked various questions to reveal more information about his experience.
What made you start cooking?
“Back when I was young, I cooked with my dad and his friends, who were in cooking competitions which encouraged me to keep doing it.”
Where do you cook and who have you done it for and do you want to cook professionally in the future?
“I cook at the house, my uncle gives me the best feedback so I love cooking for him. I cook for competitions all over. And yes, I would like to cook professionally in the future. I start competitions in March, BJU has a really good cooking program so I would like to go there.”
On your birthday, your classmates gave you a surprise gift in the form of a Blackstone grill. How do you feel about that?
“It was shocking and unexpected, I’m very happy and thankful to my classmates. I cooked them smash burgers as thanks.”
As we can see from the answers he gave, he has a clear love for cooking and those who supported him. It is always important to encourage people in their work to help them grow. Even if you’re passionate but not skilled, you can always hone your craft. The spark of creativity often goes out and dims without encouragement to become a flame. As a result, we should always encourage others’ talents and skills, because everyone has a talent, no matter how big or small.
