“I had a great time and I couldn’t have asked for a better team to experience my last season with!” Senior AJ Verme talks about her last volleyball season with Wayne Christian, as she makes her way to continuing sports in college.
Although she isn’t the happiest about her season ending, she does have a couple of bright sides to it. The varsity team made most of everything and she had a great time playing the sport she loves with her teammates. Even though she had some difficult games this season, especially against Cape Fear, which they played in their Varsity Season and for playoffs, she and her teammates never gave up on showing their best on the court. She would love to have one more chance to play Cape Fear again, and I’m sure her teammates would.
Speaking of teammates, we had the opportunity to interview another senior, Leia Mokus. She says, “It could have gone better but I think everyone grew individually and we grew as a team.” Leia has been a part of the volleyball team for a while now, and is sad her time has come to an end. She mentions that she doesn’t plan on playing volleyball in college, but is going to focus her attention on becoming a Synographer at Johnston Community College.
And now, for the one and only, Coach Thomas. He has been coaching at Wayne Christian School for a couple of years. He is an amazing coach as well as his wife, Coach Lynette Thomas. We asked him about how he felt about it being his last season with the seniors and what he will miss he says, “What is there not to miss, we have one of the best defensive players and offensive players. It’s very hard and all three will be missed for various reasons. Playing key positions on the team and being very important to all the hard work, they will be missed a lot.” The seniors have had a great time with Coach Joe and Coach Lynette and are sad that it’s their last.
We would also like to take the opportunity to give Senior Volleyball player, Anna Gray, a mention in this article. She is a very hard worker and amazing at her sport. She will be very missed next season, a long with the other seniors who are leaving. Maybe another mention to please learn to check your emails! (Not directed Anna Gray…) Besides volleyball, these three girls are so talented at everything they do. They show great leadership and have always been looked up to by their teammates. Jv and Varsity girls have had a great season with them and are glad they got to experience it with these girls.
