School is almost out, and summer is calling! Check out some fun summer activities recommended by our journalism staff.
Though not the most refined establishment you’ll find in the area, the store “Trade It” is a wonderful place to browse used wares at reasonable prices. My brother, father, and I love to browse their gaming wares from time to time, for they have many wares in that category. If you’re ever driving through Berkeley, you might find something that piques your interest. -Josiah
I enjoy going to the movies at the UEC Theaters here in Goldsboro during summer break because it’s a fun social activity with friends, and it’s fun to see movies you’ve been looking forward to for a while. If you’re looking for a time to get away from daily stressors during the summer, this is the activity for you. -Laila
My option for something to do this summer is to work at your local church’s VBS. VBS, or Vacation Bible School, is a thing that many churches participate in. In VBS, children can come to experience a miniature school environment built around Christ-centered fun and education. There are different jobs that you can have here, such as a teacher, a teacher’s assistant, a decorator, a snack preparer, and many other jobs. My personal favorite job, and the one I am assigned every year, is as a game worker, specifically an outdoor game worker. In this job, I set up and handle outdoor games for the kids, and I sometimes get to play along as well, usually as an obstacle or part of the game. I also enjoy just watching, as the sight of children enjoying something I helped make is very nice for me. -Cole
The Kinston water park, Lions Water Adventure, is the best way to escape the summer heat, offering fun waterslides for the whole family to stay cool. It is an amazing place where friends and family can bond and have a great time together. This water park is located at 2602 W Vernon Ave, Kinston, NC 28504, it offers 3 waterslides, a kiddie pool, lazy river, and a restaurant. My favorite thing about this park is all the activities you can do with friends! -Sara
Emerald Island has a lot to do, but one of my favorite things to do is going to Sol bowls for breakfast. It is an acai bowl and coffee shop that is so yummy. It is right off the bridge. Also, another fun thing to do is mini golf; the Black Pearl course is very fun and challenging. -Tinley
Morehead City is a great place to go any time of the year. There are so many things you can do, like trying a new seafood restaurant, shopping, taking a walk on the beach, fishing, and so much more! Morehead City is also home to the Big Rock Blue Marlin tournament, one of the largest sportfishing tournaments. It is held for a week each year. Overall, Morehead City is a great place to go with friends and family! -Ava
Crabtree Mall is a good place to go this summer. They have lots of stores, and the mall is very big. There is a good food court, and my favorite store is Courtside. Courtside is a resale store with a lot of apparel and shoes for sale. There are a bunch of stores, so you can find something you like, even if that’s games, jewelry, clothes & shoes, or if you just want to go somewhere and have a good time and eat. Crabtree Mall is a great place to visit over the summer. -Zion
The Streets at Southpoint is the perfect place to spend the day. There are outdoor and indoor shops, as well as many activities and food options. The mall also hosts “Music on Main” every year from May to October, a free concert series held every Saturday during those months. The mall is located at 6910 Fayetteville Rd, Durham, NC 27713. I enjoy going to this mall because of the variety of stores and activities. -Madeline
One of my favorite summer activities is traveling to the very popular Myrtle Beach. It is a city in South Carolina with many fun summer activities. One of my family’s favorite things to do when we’re there is to go to Broadway at the Beach. Broadway at the Beach is an exciting and entertaining place filled with music, fair rides, and food. There’s also the very well-known WonderWorks Upside-Down House, which features games, 3D movies, and an obstacle course. You also, of course, have to visit “It’s Sugar,” which is a place with so much candy inside, and it smells amazing. There are a lot of other fun things to do there, but those places are a few of my favorite things to do while I’m at Broadway at the Beach. -Harper
