Harper Davis and Sara Jernigan interviewed Mrs. Deanna Ryan, who is a new high school health and social studies teacher. She also coaches cross country at Wayne Christian School.
Have you had teaching experience before? If so, how long have you been teaching?
Mrs. Ryan explains that she has had teaching experience before with kids all the way from elementary to high school. She has taught at different schools for nine years but has taught Wayne Christian students for seven. This year will be her tenth year as a teacher. This is her first year as a high school teacher after only educating elementary students for the time she’s been a teacher. She says, “High school has been a big change but it was a great move.”
What are some of your favorite things to do?
Mrs. Ryan says she loves to teach history while also helping us exercise and learn about our health. Some hobbies that she enjoys are exercising and playing pickle ball in her free time even though she’s not the best at it. She also tells us that she doesn’t like staying at home as much and is always looking for something fun to do.
What’s one thing you enjoy from high school and one thing you enjoy from elementary school?
One thing she enjoys from high school is the schedule and getting to see different students every other day. She also mentions that she likes to be able to have new students each block instead of having one class all the time like elementary. Another thing she mentions that she likes about high school is that she gets to teach different things instead of multiple subjects every day. What she misses from elementary school is how they still have the drive for learning and how they find everything so exciting!
