It’s officially the hardest (or possibly easiest) time of the school year for the WCS staff, watching the Seniors graduate and say goodbye to the school. As the Class of 2025 prepares to take the next step in their lives, we spoke with Mr. Craig, Mrs. McLamb, and Mr. Miranda to reflect on the class they’ve watched grow up. And then we gave them opportunities to throw the Seniors under the bus. One last time, for all of those Bojangle’s tardies.
Favorite thing about the Class of 2025?
Craig: “Just how they seem to like to want to be around each other. It’s a good group of students that just seem to genuinely care for one another and just want to be together.”
McLamb: “Their close family bond that they have. They truly act like a family, they love each other like brothers and sisters, they fight like brothers and sisters, but they truly just embody what a family is, and I love that about them.”
Miranda: “Seeing them grow up. I came in 2017, and they were all in 4th grade. Seeing them transition from 4th grade to where they are now, and a lot of them have been here since 4th grade or earlier, so just being able to see them come through that whole process.”
Least favorite thing?
Craig: “I don’t know if I have a least favorite thing… our high school students this year, it’s just been a really great year. I don’t have a least.” (that’s definitely a lie…)
McLamb: “I don’t really have a least favorite thing, but one thing that they do that makes me giggle but also aggravates me, is a lot of the gentlemen in the Class of ’25 make random noises and sing and hum random songs at the most inappropriate times.”
A bit of advice for the Seniors?
Craig: “Be true to yourself. Follow what you’ve learned here, and from your parents and churches. That’s why we do what we do, we want them to be successful… Rely on God for everything that you do.”
McLamb: “Follow the Lord with all your heart. No matter what, He is good and faithful even when we can’t see it or feel it. You will go through hard times in your life, but He is good and working everything out in your life.”
Miranda: “They are entering the stage of life where they’re gonna figure out who they’re gonna become … Take everything you learned in your childhood, in WCS, in church, from your parents, and use that to help you become the person God wants you to become.”
Describe the class in 3 emojis.
Craig:
“I don’t use emojis, so I guess the [facepalm emoji]. I think that could be for all 4 grade levels, actually… I guess the [shrug emoji] too, I like to use that one because I like to not have an answer for questions that come up… The crying laughing face, because they’re pretty funny.”
McLamb:
“One I can’t say (!!)… The pink hearts, two pink hearts to be specific… The Skull, like ‘I’m dead,’ because sometimes they say things and that’s my response to it. And then the almost crying eyes, because I’m sad they’re leaving.”
Miranda:
“The melty face one, I use that like ‘oh, I don’t really know.’ The Senior class are still figuring out their life … The mask emoji, because these Seniors were just getting ready to start high school when COVID happened. I think their first HS year was the one where we had to wear masks … The ghost with the tongue sticking out, because this is a fun group of Seniors, they love to have fun and enjoy themselves, they’ve never been a group that gets into a lot of trouble, but they know how to have a good time” (Quite an interesting selection.)
All of the Seniors just got one big detention, what for?
Craig: “Tardies. Tardies getting back from lunch or for first block, one of those two.”
McLamb: “Probably during a chapel, or assembly, or some other serious event, all starting to hum a song or going “bleghhhh!” because that’s what they like to do, especially Shawn Griffin.” (sorry, Shawn)
Miranda: “Doing something to somebody’s car, like picking up a car and moving it or driving Mr. Craig’s truck without permission…something involving a car.”
What’s the worst excuse a Senior has given for something?
Craig: “Turkeys.”
McLamb: “I have a picture of a student with a tardy slip like ‘I was about to have to walk to school because my gas was so low,’ and she wrote all of that out.”
Miranda: “One of our Seniors two years ago, something they shouldn’t have been doing, and when I asked them why they did it, they said, ‘I dunno, temporary insanity.'” (Pretty believable, honestly…)
The wildest moment this school year that you probably won’t forget?
Craig: “Pie in the face at Boosterthon.”
McLamb: “I came in to see the effects of the Senior Prank. Not that they did something super crazy but I do know the cops were called and they did a whole photoshoot with the cops … Their prank was two parts, the first part was that they surprised me at my house really early in the morning, and had breakfast, almost all of them showed up. They had it worked out with my husband so he knew they were coming.” (Juniors, take notes.)
Miranda: “The number of times we’ve had to close this year because of crazy stuff. Beginning of the year, we had to close because of a tropical storm … Then we had to close because of bathroom plumbing, and then we had a heating issue, then we had the snow and ice twice … The number of times the Seniors have not had to be on campus or be late.”
Thank you to Mr. Craig, Mrs. McLamb, and Mr. Miranda! We are all going to miss the fun chaos the Class of ’25 brought to WCS. We wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors. Unless they touch Mr. Craig’s truck.
