We sat down and interviewed Pastor David, a high school Bible teacher at Wayne Christian School.
Describe how you came to know God.
Pastor David grew up in a Christian household. His family was always very involved in church and taught him about Jesus from a very young age. This made having faith as a child was very natural and simple for him.
What is your favorite part about being a Bible teacher?
“Seeing students grow deeper in their faith and fall more in love with Jesus and His word.”
What inspired you to become a youth pastor?
Pastor David knew he was called to ministry, but he didn’t think being a youth pastor was for him. However, an opportunity arose and he took it. He thought it would only be temporary and he didn’t like it at first. He finally fell in love with it when he had a student who was the first kid who really “got it.”
“Seeing him fall in love with Christ, made me fall in love with youth ministry.”
Describe how your walk with God has changed/grown throughout different phases of your life.
Pastor David says he took his faith for granted when he was younger, but he began to grow deeper in his faith in high school. However, college was when he really began to grow deeper, make changes, and fully live for Christ. “Losing my mom to cancer was the biggest thing that deepened my love for Christ because it pushed me towards him in a way that nothing else ever had.”
What is your favorite book in the Bible and why?
Colossians is his favorite book in the Bible. He loves it because it is very practical, yet very deep at the same time. It makes deep statements about Christ in practical ways.
