On September 27, 2024, a phenomenal movie was released. Making 334.5 million dollars worldwide, it was a smash hit and even won nine Annie awards. The movie’s name is “The Wild Robot”.
Adapted from Peter Brown’s novel of the same name, The Wild Robot follows the journey of a robot, named Roz, who was lost at sea and stranded on an island full of wildlife. In order to be able to live on the island, Roz learns the language of the animals and learns some of their ways of life, though she doesn’t understand some as she is simply a robot. She also adopts a baby goose which she names Brightbill, and has to learn how to take care of life.
The movie doesn’t sugarcoat anything either. It shows how tough nature can be, with all the dangers and losses, which makes Roz’s journey even more intense. The pacing can be a bit off at times, but the heart of the story is about finding family and figuring out what’s right when you’re responsible for someone else. It gets a bit sappy, but it balances it out with funny and quiet moments.
The Wild Robot also has a very good cast of voice actors, including that of Kit Connor, Pedro Pascal, and even Mark Hamill, an acting legend who has voiced characters like the Joker from the original animated Batman series, recently voiced in King of Kings, as well as starred in a role in almost all the Star Wars movies.
The artwork in this movie is, as previously mentioned, phenomenal, using vibrant colors and a unique art style. The character designs are simple, but perfect for the art style and background. It also has an amazing soundtrack with original scores made just for the movie.
Basically, “The Wild Robot” is a beautiful movie about belonging, caring, and growing, even if you’re a robot. It really makes you think about what it means to be a family and how to be there for each other, no matter what.
