Mr Faircloth, 26 years old, is the middle school PE coach and the high school boys varsity head coach. We asked him a variety of questions about what brought him here and what his background looks like.
What brought you to Wayne christian?
“I was working down in Georgia as a coach also helping athletes and I got a call from a pastor here to come be a youth pastor and talk with the young ones. He told me this school was looking for a new basketball coach and that’s what lead me here to help others and to bring great energy to the start of a new team.”
What was your job before coming here?
“I was a division 2 assistant coach at Emmanuel university, and I also worked with PGC basketball going all around the world talking and teaching kids/athletes just helping develop their game and teaching them things for them to work on individually and with team performance.”
What college did you attend/play at?
“I played at Emmanuel university in Georgia, about 40 minutes away from Athens, the bulldog stadium. It was a very life changing experience being that was my only offer my senior year.”
What was your high school experience like?
“Started off HORRIBLE, honestly i started at an public school my freshman year and the coach said very ugly things to me such as “you suck” and that “I should never pick up a ball again.” So my dad took me out of that school, and I also transferred into an private christian school as well. At first I was nervous because of things my previous coach said to me, but my new coach installed so much great energy and confidence in me it lead me to getting way better. During my junior and senior year, I lead my team to championships and we had great runs those years. It was that one coach that changed my life, and now I’m here to help do the same for my guys.”
What is your experience with coaching as well as being with kids helping them grow?
“I love seeing light bulbs, I love seeing and helping players and to be able to see them grow as basketball players and young men. I love seeing them use what I was able to help them with. Being a coach is more than just coaching, it’s being able to help players understand and the ability to be able to teach more than you coach.”
How tall are you and where did you grow up?
“I am 6’5, and I grew up in Clinton, NC, which is about 45 minutes from Goldsboro.”
What are you liking about the school so far?
“I love the group of guys this year, I love what we are bringing as a team and the culture we have as a team and as a school. I want to put a banner up these next years. Also I love the way the people here carry themselves.”
