The Wayne Christian High School boys golf team has extreme potential and hard working players. Both Brayden Davis and Grayson Darden were asked a series of questions about their golf experiences. It is Brayden’s first year playing varsity golf, he was on the team during previous years but decided to take a break. This year will be Grayson’s second year on the school golf team. Not everyone on the team has been playing for the same amount of time, with that being said there’s room for improvement. Like Brayden stated: “This year will be a developmental year for the team since they are all very young.” He said the team has high potential, but they all have to work towards getting better. Grayson totally agreed with what Brayden had to say. To warm up for a match, Brayden would stretch, get hydrated and eat a snack. This helps him perform better because he isn’t as stiff and up tight. This physically prepares him for the match. While on the other hand, Grayson focuses more on his skill. He hits on the range and then will putt for 30 minutes. This mentally prepares him for the course’s greens. One thing that they both would change is their mind set while playing. They would like to go into the match with a positive attitude. After asking both of the golf players questions about themselves we asked them questions about the team as a whole. Grayson mentioned that the team excels at not giving up. He wouldn’t change anything about his team. Finally, Brayden and Grayson would advise others to join the school golf team as it is a fun and relaxing sport.
The Wayne Christian Golf coach is Mike Buddin. He enjoys coaching especially when he sees the players come back after a round relieved because they beat their best score. He has been a coach for about 15 years. He was originally a baseball coach. One day his alethic director called him and asked him to become a golf coach. Coach Buddin described his teaching style as “guided discovery.” He would like it if the practices were a bit longer so he had more time to work with the players. Coach Buddin believes that not only the players could use improvement but he can improve himself as a coach. He believes that it is important to be an example of Christ while playing Golf. He displays examples of Christ through his actions, words, and behavior. He also believes it is important to be an example of Christ as a team and be positive during negative outcomes. Overall, Coach Buddin enjoys coaching both highschool boys and girls golf, and is planning on continuing coaching for as long as he can.
