The Varsity Girls Soccer Team is a group of extraordinary athletes who have come together as a team to showcase their talent on the field. We received insight from Carlee Waddell and Sydney Sterling on how their season is going this year. We also spoke with Coach Robinson about his team leading and qualities he values as a coach.
Carlee and Sydney have been playing soccer for many years and have greatly improved their skill during this time. They both play defense, and have thoroughly enjoyed this position because they have stuck with it throughout their soccer career. “The main purpose of this position is to defend the goal and keep the ball up,” Sydney stated. They believe that their team has shown much improvement overall, but there is still room for improvement concerning their focus and communication skills. Sydney believes that their team is very good at passing and cross balls. “This year, we have gotten a lot better at connecting our passes because we truly act as a team,” Carlee stated. Their team has had an outstanding season so far, with the accomplishments of beating Parrot for the first time in years and mercy ruling Wayne Country Day.
Coach Robinson is a first time soccer coach at Wayne Christian School who has led his team to many victories and outstanding accomplishments. He has been coaching for about 23 years and has coached a variety of sports such as football, baseball, basketball, girls soccer, and softball. Out of each of these sports, he has thoroughly enjoyed coaching football. In order to become a better coach, “You have to adapt and change constantly to today’s generation,” stated Coach Robinson. He believes that his team has shown the most improvement by becoming tougher mentally and physically. As a coach, he values accountability and concentration. He also believes that both the coach and player should have a mutual trust, knowing that they are both in it for the right reasons.
