Mrs. Alves has been a valuable member of the WCS family, serving as the Enrollment and Marketing Manager and more recently as the cheer coach. Alves shares that her favorite part of coaching has been connecting with the girls. ‘I have developed strong relationships with them and witnessed the unique gifts God has placed upon each girl. They are all incredibly diverse, but are all united by their faith in the Lord and their shared passion for the team.”
When asked how she motivates her team, Mrs. Alves explained, ‘The girls are incredibly fun, and sometimes all they need is a reminder of that energy. We’re fortunate to have this opportunity, and we all possess a natural enthusiasm and are incredibly supportive of each other. I simply remind them of this with lots of energy!'”
While Cheerleading is a fun extracurricular activity, it also presents challenges. We asked Mrs. Alves what the hardest part of coaching has been. She responded, ‘Navigating different personalities can be challenging. We all share the same ultimate goal, but everyone has their own approach to achieving it. This has been a valuable learning experience, teaching me how to effectively work through different opinions and personalities.'”
We asked about Mrs. Alves’ preference for the indoor setting of basketball versus the excitement of football. She responded, “Both sports are exciting and offer unique benefits, but I personally prefer basketball. It provides a better opportunity for people to see and hear the cheerleaders perform, and their cheers can be heard better.”
Mrs. Alves shared her team goals for the remainder of the year: “We aim to finish the basketball season strong and develop a plan for next season. This involves exploring ways to mentor the junior varsity team through cheer clinics and taking opportunities for the varsity team to improve their skills while also strengthening their bond.”
Mrs. Alves expressed her gratitude, saying, ‘I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity God has given me to coach these girls. I’ve grown to truly love each and every one of them, and I’m truly excited to see how we will continue to grow together in the years to come.’ The girls reciprocate this gratitude, recognizing that God placed Mrs. Alves in this position as she has served as a strong leader and mentor for them.
