“One of the only things I regret is not having enough fun.” This winter our varsity girls basketball team went 5-13 on the season and ranked sixth in our conference. Although it might not have been the season they wanted, they speak highly of the memories that were made. Sydney Vinson, a sophomore said “ I think my best memories from this season is hanging out with the team and growing close with all of the girls.
“There was never a game we wanted to win more than another, we just wanted to win all of them” states Coach Smith. With the season coming to an end, Lindsey Walden, a senior shared “I’m glad the season is almost over, but at the same time I’ve grown a connection with everyone on the team so I’m sad.” Vinson expressed that one thing that keeps the team motivated is the energy and the excitement after the games they win, “The energy is hype, everybody is super pumped and ready for the next game.”
Walden talks about not letting her team down and staying motivated, “I don’t have the choice to give up, because I’m not gonna let my team down.” We asked Sydney to walk us through what happens in the locker room before games and her response was, “We all get ready, Coach Smith gives a pep talk and tells us to relax. He tells us we need to have less than twenty turnovers, we pray and then we play.” Coach Smith’s advice to all upcoming high school players is “play at least one year, I think everyone should experience the game at least once.” Thank you to the Varsity Girls Basketball team for their time, Go Eagles!
