As we enter this season of love it’s important to remember the ultimate love we receive, which is from Jesus Christ. Valentine’s day often gets so commercialized as a time we can show our love for one another with boxes of chocolates, bouquets of roses, and cheesy love notes. It’s impossible to walk into a store during February and not be met with the sight of pink and red hearts, giant teddy bears, and the overall theme of romance and love. This Valentines day you should make it a point to recognize and remember the love shown by the Father. 1 John 3:16 says, “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” Love isn’t something we should only be showing 1 day out of the year. Matthew 22:36-40, “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Remember to reflect on all God has done for you and your community and remember to show love for your neighbor, 1 Peter 4:8. Though it can be fun to receive silly little cards and candy hearts, don’t forget about our number one love.
