Last Friday, the Eagles bowed out of the playoffs after a heartbreaking defeat to Cary Christian.
It was an exciting back-and-forth game in front of the home crowd, with both teams trading touchdowns throughout the first half. Just before halftime, Jeremiah Winders rushed in for a touchdown to tie the game, but a blocked extra point left the Eagles one point behind. Neither team scored in the second half.
After lengthy delays in the 4th quarter due to player injuries that required ambulance calls, the Eagles’ defense made a crucial stop to regain the ball late into the quarter. However, a costly fumble all but sealed the game for the Cary Knights.
Fortunately, both injured players have since been released from the hospital.
After this grueling matchup, the Eagles have sadly been eliminated from the playoffs. Cary Christian will move on to the next round, where they will face John Paul II. The Eagles finish the season with a respectable 7-3 record.
