Eleanor Woodard and Lauren Narron have had a wonderful experience on the Wayne Christian School’s girls golf team. Eleanor has been playing golf for five years now, while Lauren recently started playing two years ago. Eleanor’s Dad encouraged her to try out when she was in sixth grade and Lauren decided to try out because she wanted to play with her friend. While thinking about this year’s golf season, Lauren says, “As a team, we all did pretty well this year. Individually, I need to work on my attitude toward the game.” Individually, Eleanor strives to improve her swing. She wants it to be stronger, helping her strike the ball. “As a team, we can work on helping each other as much as possible and hold each other accountable”, says Eleanor. Lauren struggles with the mental aspect of golf, rather than the physical aspect. Eleanor struggles with getting to practice on time, but once she arrives, she is very focused.
When preparing for a golf match, Lauren practices on the driving range and the putting green. The golf team prays together and thank God for the ability to play. On the day of a match, Eleanor tries to keep her mind off of golf. As she is warming up on the driving range, she is focused on everything concerning her golf swing. Once she has a few consistent hits, she plays putt-putt with her teammates. Lauren’s most memorable moment from this season was at Cardinal Country Club, where she achieved her best score in a match this season. A funny moment from this golf season that stuck out to Eleanor was when they were sent to play holes at practice and it started pouring before they could finish the first hole. Eleanor and Stella were laughing as they walked back to the pro shop in the pouring rain because there was not enough room on the golf cart for them to fit. “I achieved my lowest golf score at our last match of the season. I was relieved and it made me feel good about myself and the season as a whole. It felt great to end the season with a great match”, says Eleanor.”
