Homecoming and spirit week is one of the most fun weeks of the year here at Wayne Christian. We have a pep rally every day of the week. Each pep rally consists of a game that is competed between grade levels. Every time your grade wins a game during the pep rally, you receive more points. There are also dress up days for each day of the week. Each grade level gets points for everyone who participates in the dress up day. On Friday, all of the points were added up and it was announced that the seniors won!
We interviewed Addison Mitchell from 9th grade and London Johnson from 10th grade to get their insight on homecoming and spirit week. Addison’s favorite pep rally game was volleyball. She loved how it was very fun, but didn’t get out of control. She explained that Judson came up with the idea of “Duck Dynasty” for their skit. Although they didn’t have much practice, they enjoyed performing the skit as a class. Addison and Emery Kate were very outgoing for spirit week. They put a lot of thought and effort into their outfits and showed a lot of school spirit. London’s favorite pep rally game was tug of war. She especially enjoyed seeing the girls from each grade play against each other. The sophomores did “High School Musical” for their skit. London was assigned the role of Gabriella and Drake was Troy Bolten. Mrs. Marshall helped them assign roles to everyone and plan their routine. They headed over to the gym each day during homeroom to practice. The sophomores were very energetic and hyped, leading them to winning the skit competition. London said they had lots of fun and they enjoyed coming together and doing this as a class. Out of all of the sophomores, Ella Rose was the most outgoing for spirit week. According to London, “She went all out every day and had all the school spirit.”
We interviewed Maddy from 11th grade as well as Travis, Nate, and JB from 12th grade. Maddy loved the musical chairs game because everyone was very competitive and it was funny to watch. The juniors went over to the stem lab to plan and practice their skit until they felt like it was perfect. They also had people making props for the skit as well. They themed their skit around the movie “Inside Out.” They went all out in their costumes. Maddy, Leia, and Devin were very outgoing for spirit week. Travis and Nate loved the volleyball game because they had a lot of fun with it. JB says that dodgeball was his favorite game because it was the most suspenseful. There were a lot of thoughts floating around, but the seniors made sure their skit was accurate according to the movie “Toy Story.”
